OPERA BOXES

A new innovation in catering by Toit du Monde, Opera Boxes offers theatregoers in the West End of London the opportunity to have a complete night-out in one venue without stress or vast expense.

Conventionally, and for centuries, boxes in opera houses were reserved as private enclaves accessible only to the ultra-rich and entitled. In opera boxes, audiences were able to partake of food and wine in the comfort of their special seats in these exclusive spaces.

Where modern Health and Safety rules have come into force hampering the delivery and service of food and drinks to some opera boxes, many opera houses have turned to catering sit-down dinners in designated sections of public areas in the opera houses. This entails guests rushing from their spectator seats to reach their allocated dining table on time to eat and fibnish one course at each interval. The pressure to serve (and to be served) belies the high prices paid for this dubious pleasure to race against the bell.

The alternative is drinks and nibble at the bar or tubs of ice cream and packets of popcorn or chocolate from vendors inside the theatre at intervals.

With Opera Boxes, Toit du Monde is launching a new concept in Theatre Catering at London’s Peacock Theatre. Each Opera Box marries food and drink and provides a complete meal, which can be pre-ordered at the Box Office. Guests have a choice to have the Opera Box delivered to the seat in the auditorium or to collect from the Opera Box Pop-up for consumption back in one’s own seat or in the public bar areas.

TRIOPERAS

Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Women’s Vote, TRIOPERAS is a new production which looks at women from traditional operatic stories through the eyes of a 21st century woman composer and interpreter. Tan-Nicholson has re-written the stories to present the women as symbols of strength and independence, living their lives with courage well ahead of their time.

Aside from observing the women with a modern eye, TRIOPERAS also presents opera as a contemporary all-inclusive, all-action art form. It is the Peacock Theatre’s first opera promotion and is perfectly suited for a complete entertainment experience when taken together with Opera Boxes devised by Toit du Monde.
